Osteoporosis Fractures Will Triple in the Next 50 Years

Two and a half million women in Spain have osteoporosis. This disease occurs in Spain, about 90,000 hip fractures and 500,000 vertebral fractures every year.

There is a notable decline in the quality of life of patients suffering a fractured bone disease that is increasing again due to the aging population.

Experts warn that osteoporotic fractures will triple in the next 50 years. One in two women over 50 may suffer a bone fracture due to osteoporosis and one in three over 80 years will suffer a hip fracture.

Hip fractures have a high mortality rate and that 24 percent of people who have suffered a hip fracture die within the next year and only half retains the same walking ability before. All other patients with this type of fracture should be placed in centers.

Fractures and pain are not the only consequence of this disease, but also the suffering of a functional limitation, stem deformity, reduced height, and even loss of self esteem and psychological disorders.
